Founder, Chairman
Barry has wide, global, experience of life beyond Barry Fleming & Partners. For example, he spent seven years in the army and saw active service in the Far East and Middle East. He served with both the Intelligence Corps and with Airborne Forces.
Much of his time was spent with local civilians and police. In Cyprus, he had a key role with the UN Peacekeepers. In the Far East he learned to speak Malay and his experiences in both villages and jungle have given him a keen sense of what is important in this world.
Barry competed in many sports in the Army, playing cricket and tennis, as well as boxing and shooting for which he won many cups. He combined military parachuting with competitive sport sky-diving.
Barry is well known for his work on military history and he is allegedly writing a book on the subject.
His varied experience, and dealing with people at all levels and from many different backgrounds, have helped him with his responsibilities as a Director and Chairman of this company. When he says that “Experience and qualifications in financial planning are critical, but so is an awareness of the wider world”, he means it.
